Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)

27 years and seven movies after his first mission, Ethan Hunt returns with his IMF team for what is their most dangerous mission yet: tracking down the newest lethal weapon before it falls into the wrong hands. With ghosts of his past coming back to haunt him, Hunt is in a deadly race around the globe. Ethan must now learn that with his newest foe, nothing can matter more than this new mission, not even the lives of those he cares about most.

Back at it directing his third Mission: Impossible movie, Christopher McQuarrie, Tom Cruise, and team bring the blockbuster back to life once again. Rejoining our main protagonist are Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther (Ving Rhames) and Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson), while new cast member Grace (Hayley Atwell) shows the franchise what she is made of. And of course, at his prime, stunts and all, Tom Cruise leads the way for what could be one of this summer’s best blockbusters.

Right from the beginning they bring in the actions, the stunts, the special effects, everything. Within the very first scene audiences are introduced to Ethan’s new mission, and we are drawn in for the ride. Not once does the film have a dull moment, the action just continues on and on again. There were of course scenes without action that were needed for mission explanation and more intimate moments. The audience can see the dedication Tom Cruise provides in doing his own stunts. Him and McQuarrie are indeed making sure to add more to the films as the franchise moves forward. Expect what you haven’t seen done before.

Even though the summer blockbusters are leaning towards Barbie (Gerwig, 2023) and Oppenheimer (Nolan, 2023), Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 should not be forgotten for summer flicks. See it on the biggest screen possible and enjoy yourself at the cinema once more.
